The Poetry of Chris Anderson and Steve Dieffenbacher
Corvallis poet and Catholic deacon Chris Anderson returns with a new book of poems celebrating the presence of a Mystery, a Longing, in our memories and our lives. You Never Know, as David Biespiel puts it, “is an elegant testimony to the joy of making sense of everyday moments.”
How do we remain hopeful in today’s world – one in which accelerated climate change has become a reality, nuclear proliferation remains a threat, and technological advances make our interactions with each other increasingly impersonal? Steve Dieffenbacher’s Intimations examines this search in poems about the fear of dislocation, the sustaining bonds of family and friends, the solace of the Southwest’s stark beauty, and the restorative power of language itself.
Steve Dieffenbacher’s full-length book of poems, The Sky Is a Bird of Sorrow won a ForeWord Reviews 2013 Bronze Award for poetry. A poem in the book, “Night Singer, Chaco Canyon, New Mexico,” was named a 2013 Spur Award poetry finalist by the Western Writers of America, and he won the Cloudbank magazine poetry prize in 2010. He also has two chapbooks, At the Boundary and Universe of the Unsaid, and has been published widely in regional anthologies and magazines. He lives in Medford, Oregon.
