Revelator

by Daryl Gregory

Stella is a good liar. As a bootlegger, she has to be. She lies about
her job, she lies about why she left home at 14, she lies about her
complex heritage, and most importantly, she lies about her family’s
secret religion, and the very real “god” that lives in the caves
behind the family home. When her grandmother dies, leaving her
young cousin defenseless as the rest of the family starts to swarm,
Stella is finally forced to return home and confront the painful
truths she’s been denying, before her tragic history repeats itself
with a new victim.

Set in the backwoods of depression era Tennessee, this is a tale of
moonshine, monsters, and the horror and glory of belief. A little
bit like Where the Crawdads Sing, with some fantasy and horror
thrown in for good measure. – Skye
