The Librarianist

by Patrick deWitt

Comic and tender characters, a sudden surreal adventure halfway through – if you’ve read other deWitt (like The Sisters Brothers) this will feel familiar, even if the colorful grousing is coming from members of a senior center and not a dilapidated L.A. bar (The Ablutions). The Librarianist is a story of a man who lived with books at the foundation of his life, and his decision to finally allow people to play a more central role. Can we change, even late in life? deWitt seems to think so. – Meg
